The Canadian technology industry is resilient, and regardless of the global challenges we have faced, and continue to face, the sector continues to grow and innovate. Human Resources leaders and practitioners have been thrown into the limelight to lead their organizations through difficult and unprecedented times. While not easy, HR leaders have risen to the occasion and delivered infinite business value to their organizations. They have worked side-by-side with CEOs and senior executives to work through and solve our biggest and most complex challenges. While we are now more than 3 years removed from the start of the COVID-19 global health pandemic, Canadian HR leaders in the tech industry continue to thrive in their roles as business leaders.
In partnership with TAP Network and the recent Tech Talent North East conference in Toronto, this inaugural initiative to recognize the top HR leaders in Canadian tech is about shining a huge spotlight on the many HR leaders from across the country. While not recognizing non-leaders directly, this initiative is also about recognizing those who work for and with HR leaders. They too, have risen to the challenge and delivered extraordinary results for their organizations.
At ScaleHR, we have worked with countless incredible HR leaders across the tech sector and wanted to ensure that this recognition was based on set criteria. We launched a nomination process where anyone could nominate an HR leader in tech. We received more than 70 nominations, and the majority of the nominated individuals met the recognition criteria. We augmented the nomination process with our own research to broaden the number of recognized HR leaders in tech, ensuring that leaders living and working in different parts of the country were included.
While we were conducting our research and finalizing the list of HR leaders, we noticed that many of the identified HR leaders were senior executives. These are individuals who have lead HR for a variety of Canadian tech companies over a consistent period of time. These HR leaders have been recognized with an individual profile.
Recognition Criteria:
- Currently leading HR for a Canadian technology company. The specific job title is not as important as the individual leading the HR function. Note: we also included those who have lead HR for tech companies in the recent past but are currently working for a tech company but not leading the HR function.
- Consultants, contractors, fractional leaders and related are not eligible for recognition.
- The focus is on permanent company employees.
- The tech company is considered an SMB (small to mid-sized) company.
